Emergence Series Statement

In this series, I fuse portraiture with abstract expressionism, merging recognisable facial features with bold brushstrokes and vibrant colours. I employ techniques such as dripping, splattering, and gestural mark-making to infuse each portrait with energy and spontaneity, softening the boundary between representation and abstraction.

Underlying this work is my belief that humans are more than the sum of their parts—a depth that goes beyond the visible and definable. In an age increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence, I find this realisation especially significant. Through these portraits, I aim to capture the complex nuances of human experience, conveying a sense of both familiarity and intrigue that hints at something beyond mere appearance.

I hope to evoke in viewers a sense of connection to the subject while also introducing an element of ambiguity, inviting a personal interpretation of each piece. By blending the identifiable with the abstract, I seek to offer viewers a unique, subjective encounter that reflects the richness and irreplaceable nature of human identity.

The symbolism of waves is the crux of this body of work, representing the ebb and flow of life’s experiences. This collection is a visual representation of the power of transformation when you follow your heart.

Kent Coast Series

This series of abstract works is my response to the Kent coast—a place I wasn’t born to, but that has quietly begun to feel like home. The white cliffs, with their stark beauty and weathered strength, have become symbols of something I’m always searching for: grounding and belonging.

Though I’m not ancestrally from this landscape, there’s a quiet familiarity in it, that speaks to something internal.

The cliffs, with their luminous stillness and enduring strength, have come to symbolise a kind of home: not fixed by origin, but formed through connection and continuity.

Through abstract expressionism, I translate these emotional landscapes using layered textures, fluid gestures, and a balance of control and release. My work is a way of mapping how place, memory, and emotion overlap - how something outside of us can reflect something deeply within.
