Interconnectivity
through Art...

About

Hi my name is GeGe,

I am an artist based in the Southeast of England. My preferred medium is acrylic paints, however, I often experiment with other media.

I spent over two decades as an architect before making the leap to follow my true passion. For as long as I can remember, art has been my deepest love.

In the past 10 years, I have focused on drawing and painting representationally as a pastime, only to discover my love for abstract expressionism in the last few years. That shift has completely changed the way I approach art, allowing me to explore emotion, movement, and meaning in a more profound way.

In 2022, I sold my first-ever abstract mini-series, and that moment was the turning point for me.  shortly after that, I made the decision to transition from architecture to a full-time artist—and I’ve never looked back.

What I love most about art is the freedom it provides. Unlike architecture, where everything must be meticulously calculated, art allows for fluidity, expression, and emotion. It’s a space where I can truly explore creativity without boundaries, where every brushstroke and gesture can carry meaning and tell a story.

Through my work, I aim to connect with others on an emotional level, bringing messages to life in a way that speaks to the heart, not just the eye. This journey has been about rediscovering my voice, learning to trust my instincts, and letting the art take me where it wants to go. It’s been incredibly liberating, and I’m excited to continue sharing this passion.

New Series Statement

Exhibitions

In this series I combine portraiture with abstract expressionism, creating pieces that blend recognisable features of a person's face with bold, dynamic brushstrokes and vibrant colours.

To convey the complex nuances of human experience, through layers of paint and texture, I endeavour  to capture  the physical likeness of a subject as well as the intangible essence of their soul.

Through techniques such as dripping, splattering and gestural mark-making I infuse the portraits with energy and spontaneity, blurring the line between representation and abstraction- My aim, to evoke both a sense of familiarity and a feeling of intrigue and ambiguity.

These portraits convey the subject's emotions and personality through abstract forms and gestures, offering viewers a unique and subjective interpretation of each figure.

Bio

Having practised as an architect for two decades, my sense of purpose had never wavered. However, over the past few years, I felt a subtle shift, a pull towards a different path. I had been painting in a solely representational style for the past decade, yet, it always felt too confining to contain the world of emotions and memories within me.

In 2022, I took a leap of faith by exhibiting and selling my first-ever abstract series - Whispers in the Wind; a defining moment that inspired me to make the life-altering choice to dive headlong into my newfound passion.

In the spring of 2023, I embarked on an extraordinary journey to embrace a full-time career as an artist. Exhibiting my first series 'Cosmic Wave' (my first solo exhibition Oct '23) and now my second series 'Emergence' will be exhibited for the first time from 27th June - 2nd July '24 at The Pie Factory Gallery, Margate.

Education

I am a registered architect in the UK. I hold a Postgraduate Diploma from the Glasgow School of Art, (Charles Rennie Mackintosh School of Architecture) and a Bachelors Degree from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art.
